Diabetes Testing Device
A pocket-sized testing experience.

16 year old Austin and friend after a victorious competition presentation
Role
Designed and prototyped device
Sold pieces to stores and individuals
Drafted and led through utility patent process
Diabetes Testing Device
The diabetes blood sugar testing process is cumbersome and bulky, requiring a bag of supplies.
The goal was to eliminate the need to carry around a bag by combining all main components into a pocket-sized device.

An included compartment for extra test strips to eliminate the need to fumble with multiple containers.

A no-touch insertion method to reduce the need to touch and handle tiny test strips.

Paint Points
After analyzing my own process, and interviewing 10 others, two themes stood out:
Compactness and Ease of Use

Form
A shape and layout of the device allowing for single-hand testing.

Utility Patent
I drafted and was granted, after several rounds of back and forth with the USPTO, a Utility Patent.

Outcomes
Utility patent granted
Won district-wide high school Shark Tank competition
I used the product everyday for 3+ years
Licensing discussions with large diabetes device manufacturers
